Volatile organic compounds – VOCs

The VOC declaration is a statement requested for the marketing of paints, varnishes and vehicle refinishing products which aims to restrict the content of volatile organic compounds. Directive 1999/13/EC aims to prevent or reduce the direct and indirect effects of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs ) in the environment and for humans, fixing emission limits for such compounds and creating appropriate operating conditions for plants which make use of organic solvents. The European Directive 2004/42/EC, implemented in Italy through Legislative Decree n. 161 of 27 March 2006, lays down the obligation, as from 1 January 2007, for manufacturers of paints and varnishes to apply on all its packaging labels that state the type of product for sale, the allowed emission limit values of Volatile Organic Content (VOC) for that kind of product and the values of its own product.
